Liner Notes
Mood II Swing's "Closer" arrives at 0:45 — its earliest placement in the archive after five appearances. Where previously it anchored the middle sections, here it's the second sound the listener hears, a promotion from supporting player to opening act. The Deepshakerz Rework's warm vocal sets the emotional register immediately: this is going to be a mix about feeling, and it's going to feel like this. Swedish House Mafia's "Heaven Takes You Home" at 1:45 follows, big and open and unafraid of arena-scale emotion.
The energy arc builds to a peak in the second quarter — the highest single-quarter reading since Mix 09 — before sustaining through the third and descending into a long, atmospheric close. The shape is classic DJ architecture, but the execution is the most sophisticated the archive has produced. The build from Mood II Swing through Punctual, KC Lights, and Fred again.. into Youngr's "Chop Suey" at 17:30 and Technasia's "I Am Somebody" at 18:15 is seamless, each track adding a degree of intensity without anyone noticing the temperature change.
RÜFÜS DU SOL appear twice — "Innerbloom" at 33:45 and "On My Knees" in Adriatique's remix at 1:21:30. "Innerbloom" is the track that defined their presence in the early archive, last heard in Mix 01, and its return after a twenty-one-mix absence carries genuine weight. The Adriatique remix of "On My Knees" positions them in the deep, European melodic space they've always occupied in this DJ's imagination — not an Australian band anymore, but a feeling that belongs to the continent's late-night electronic culture.
The recurring cast assembles in strength: Marc Marzenit's "Perron" at 20:15, Demarkus Lewis' "Body Tonic" at 1:01:00, Solee's "Shanti" at 1:02:00, Rui Da Silva's "Touch Me" at 1:06:30, Fabio Fuso's "Obscurity" at 1:28:45. Five signature tracks in one session, each deployed at a specific moment in the arc — "Perron" during the build, "Body Tonic" and "Shanti" during the sustained middle, "Touch Me" as the descent begins. The DJ's toolbox is fully stocked, and they know exactly when to reach for each instrument.
Rihanna's "Skin" at 57:15 is a rare R&B deep cut — not a single, not a hit, but a slow-burning album track all sensuality and whisper. It's followed immediately by nestor's "Skin" at 58:30 — same title, different song, different genre. The double-skin sequence creates a bridge between pop intimacy and house rhythm, one bleeding into the other so naturally that the genre shift becomes invisible. It's one of the archive's most elegant transitions, and it happens so quietly you might not even notice.
Sonny Fodera, Gorgon City & Danny Howard's "Remember" at 51:00 and The Stickmen Project's "Tears In Ibiza" at 55:45 anchor the post-peak section with UK house warmth. Kidnap's "Grow" returns at 26:00, its patient dub carrying the kind of emotional depth that justifies the word "deep" in deep house. Hyenah's "Ezizweni" at 32:00 continues the South African thread.
The closing section is the most carefully constructed descent in the archive. From Elderbrook & Tourist's "Howl" at 1:03:45, the mix moves through OFFAIAH, Tripmastaz, Grant Nelson, David Guetta, and into RÜFÜS DU SOL's Adriatique Remix. Then Sultan + Shepard's "Raye" at 1:27:15, Digital Department's "Disconnection" in both chillout and house versions, Julian Wassermann's "Sol" at 1:29:00, and Alain Grasselli's "Sonnenschiff" at 1:30:45. The lights go down in graduated stages, each track dimmer than the last, until the mix barely registers as sound. It's the most cinematic ending since Mix 06, and it closes the most complete chapter the archive has produced.
