The Story

Some mixes are made for whoever happens to be listening. This one was made for a room. It began as Andy's mix, for one of this DJ's closest friends, and it was built for Bali, where his partner's Colombian friends had flown in, and where the plan was to press play with all of them in earshot. The plan didn't survive the trip. Life happens, as the DJ put it, and the mix came home unplayed. It goes out now under the month it was finished, October 2026, but it is still Andy's mix, and every choice in it still faces that room.

Listen to who is singing and the room comes into focus. Bad Bunny's "NUEVAYoL" arrives at track ten in an Alex Tolino Afro house remix. "Toca Toca", the 2013 Romanian hit, follows in the version Sistek and Morry rebuilt with Fly Project this July. From there Spanish keeps coming back: LATIN MAFIA from Mexico City, CA7RIEL and Paco Amoroso from Buenos Aires, Guatemalan cellist Mabe Fratti, and, in Portuguese, the São Paulo funk of Menor Teteu. None of it is Colombian, strictly. All of it is chosen for a room full of Colombians: a party met in its own language.

The spine of that thread is a single record. 9 months & 50 hours, the album Fred again.. made with LATIN MAFIA, came out at the end of July, and four of its tracks are here: "Te Estoy Correteando" in a Karlo remix, "Bonita", "benjy chord" and "Mabe". Add "Facilita" and "Sexy Magic" and Fred again.. is credited on six of the twenty-two tracks, one more than Mix 22, the mix these notes once simply called "the Fred again.. mix". He has threaded this archive since Mix 03. In Mix 47 he was the bridge. Here he is the host. LATIN MAFIA, meanwhile, had never appeared in the archive before. They arrive four times.

One of those six is a carry. "Facilita", with Caribou and Menor Teteu, sat fifty-six minutes into Mix 47. It returns here in the version recorded live in Lyon on Friday 24 October 2025, the same record heard from inside a crowd. Mix 47 did the same thing with RÜFÜS DU SOL's "New York", lifted straight out of Mix 46. It is becoming a habit of the late archive: one record handed from each mix to the next, like a baton.

The opening reaches back before any of that. Drake starts the set, in Oishi Manko's remix of "JANICE STFU"; he has been part of this archive since Mix 01's "God's Plan" and "In My Feelings". Destiny's Child's "Say My Name" follows as Eddie Barnett's deep house reading; the original played in Mix 15 and Cyril Hahn's rework in Mix 07. Avicii, present since Mix 01, comes back with "Silhouettes" from 2012 in a Petit Biscuit edit. Then a Rencontre Nocturne medley folds in Swedish House Mafia's "Don't You Worry Child" and "Heaven Takes You Home", the second of which played in the opening minutes of Mix 22. Marshall Jefferson, whose "Move Your Body" ran through Mixes 04, 14 and 30, returns on "High In Ibiza", released in August with HoneyLuv and rhys from the sticks. The first half is old friends at a new party.

And then "Missing". Everything But The Girl released it in 1994, and Todd Terry's club mix, the version that made it a hit, played two hours into Mix 01 in September 2018. Three decades after the original and eight years after this archive began, it comes back in John Summit's remix. Summit himself has turned up in nine earlier mixes. It hands straight over to the closing run of Fred again.. records.

The pop heart beats loud here, because it's a party. Sean Paul's "She Doesn't Mind" comes in a YoChris remix; he was last heard in Mix 44 alongside Enrique Iglesias on "Bailando". Christina Aguilera's "Genie in a Bottle", in the Levi mix, is new to the archive and drops the tempo to 121, the slowest moment in the set. BLOND:ISH's "How I'm Feeling", LOWLITE's "say it slow" and Deepend and SVNSETS's "Comfort Zone" carry the melodic middle. Adam Ten and Rafael's "Beat Goes On" credits Leon Sylvers III, Stephen Shockley and William Shelby, the writers of The Whispers' 1979 "And the Beat Goes On". Adam Ten last appeared in Mix 40, remixing RÜFÜS DU SOL.

The keys tell you how it was put together. The first six tracks walk up the Camelot wheel almost a step at a time, 1A to 2A to 3A to 4A to 5A. Two tracks settle back on 4A, then the set climbs through 6A and 8A to a three-track plateau at 10A around "say it slow", "Beat Goes On" and "Bonita". From there it steps back down through 8A, 6A and 7A and lands on 4A for the last three. The tempo stays between 121 and 134 the whole way, never rushing.

It ends on "Final Credits". Midland's 2016 disco record took Gladys Knight's voice from "Neither One of Us" and sped it up until it sounded like gospel; it was Mixmag's song of that year, and crowds still shout for it at the end of his sets. At nearly seven minutes it is the longest stretch in the set, and the title does exactly what it says: a mix built for one night ends by rolling the credits on it.

Mix 47 ended by saying the archive had been waiting for a Friday worth coming back for. Mix 48 was made for a night in Bali that never came, so it comes here instead, where the night starts whenever you press play. For Andy, for the friends who flew in, and for anyone else who wants to be in that room.
